Article by Jarosław Sroczyński entitled “Alternative dispute resolution in the energy sector: hopes and concerns”

A new article of Mr. Sroczyński was published in “The Internet Antimonopoly and Regulatory Quarterly” (iKAR 6(6)/2017), entitled “Alternative dispute resolution in the energy sector: hopes and concerns”. The article presents various procedures applied in consumer disputes in the energy sector by the entity authorised to settle such disputes, i.e., the Coordinator for negotiations. Article by Jarosław Sroczyński entitled: “The law on contractual advantage: first reflections and controversies”

An article of Mr. Sroczyński was published in the Jubilee Book for Professor Tadeusz Skoczny, concerning the new law on abuse of the contractual advantage in the food and agriculture sectors. The purpose of the new law was critically analysed in the article, along with its possible effects for small and middle suppliers. Some essential notions included in the new law were also analysed, such as the public interest and the disproportion in the economic potential of undertakings.

Jubilee Book in honor of Professor Tadeusz Skoczny

On October 27, 2017, Mr. Jarosław Sroczyński participated in the ceremony of granting the Jubilee Book to Professor Tadeusz Skoczny, in recognition of his unique achievements in the research and teaching of competition law. The event took place at the Faculty of Management of the University of Warsaw, gathering numerous representatives of the judiciary, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection and other regulators, as well as the doctrine and practice of law. Mr. Sroczyński had the privilege to be invited to contribute one of the laudations for Professor Skoczny, published in the Jubilee Book.

Agnieszka Staszek and Zuzanna Ochońska at the Olsztyn Bar Association conference on GDPR

Agnieszka Staszek and Zuzanna Ochońska participated in the conference „Practical aspects of the EU regulation 2016/679 concerning the protection of personal data. How the lawyers should be prepared?”. The conference was organized on September 7-10, 2017 in Olsztyn, by the European Association of Lawyers from Brussels and the Olsztyn Bar Association (OIRP). The goal of the conference was to discuss the practical aspects of implementation of Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (General Data Protection Regulation).

New book by Professors Janusz Barta and Ryszard Markiewicz

In August 2017, Wolters Kluwer published new edition of the book “Copyright and related rights”, co-authored by Professors Janusz Barta and Ryszard Markiewicz. The publication presents important elements of copyright law issues, including proper drafting of contracts, using of copyright in the internet (open access), and the orphan works.

Lecture by Marcin Mioduszewski for ELSA Łódź

On August 23, 2017 Mr. Mioduszewski delivered a lecture for ELSA Łódź during the “IInd Film Law School”. The subject of the lecture were so-called “additional royalties” for co-authors and artistic performers of the audiovisual works (Article 70 section 2(1) and 3 of the Copyright Act), an interesting institution of the Polish copyright law which is the source of numerous legal and economic controversies. The issue was presented on the background of the example of the first Polish court claim for “additional royalties” for actors of a docu-crime TV series, still pending before courts.
