An interesting June weekend in beautiful Stockholm. After two years of covid break, another meeting of Cleary Gottlieb alumni. Discussions about the world today from a global perspective and many local ones. Also lots of sightseeing, from the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in historic Villa Åkerlund – thanks to H.E. Erik Ramanathan and Alumnus Ranesh Ramanathan for their hospitality – to an individual trip to the UNESCO-listed Skogskyrkogården forest cemetery, with Greta Garbo’s grave. A few dozen steps up its Meditation Hill – high at first, then lower and lower, as in life.

Editor R. Krupa-Dąbrowska took up a difficult and sensitive subject, namely compensation for the damage done to the property of Polish entrepreneurs in Ukraine by the Russian aggressor. Lawyers speaking on this topic are considering filing lawsuits against Russia. Today this is rather wishful thinking, but let us hope that one day a special reparation fund will make up for the damage. Issue 1/2022 of Bialystok Legal Studies published an article by Dr. Michał Markiewicz titled: “Public communication of a work on the Internet in EU law (Directive 2001/29 vs. Directive 2019/790) – is there an “identifiable” scope of this right?”. The issues related to the interpretation of the scope of copyright on the Internet are not only, to put it mildly, not obvious, but are further complicated by the implementation of the DSM Directive. In the article the author draws attention inter alia to selected inconsistencies in the case law of the Court of Justice of the EU.
