On October 1-2, 2022, classes on copyright law were held as part of the KBF Editorial School, at which our expert, attorney Marcin Mioduszewski, spoke. We would like to thank the Organizers and Participants of both weekend meetings. It is always a great pleasure for members of our team to present copyright law in a slightly different format than usual.

On September 12-14, 2022 in Krakow, the XXII Krakow Conference organized by the FORUM Educational Center took place. Dr. Michal Markiewicz gave a lecture covering two issues: copyright vs. trademark and the liability of a hosting platform on the example of the “Chomikuj” ruling. – Supreme Court judgment of August 26, 2022 (II CSKP 3/22). On the other hand, Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz laid out the matter including: the complaint of Poland in the case for the annulment of Article 17 of the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) 2019/790 on copyright in the digital single market, new problems and settlements in the field of copyright protection of a work and its scope, as well as the principle of proportionality in copyright law. In June 2022, the Jagiellonian University Publishing House published a new book “Law and Social Media” edited by Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz. The book is the result of two years of research conducted by doctoral students within the framework of the legal sciences seminar at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at Jagiellonian University. Congratulations! The authors’ work was supervised by Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz.

Sincere thanks to the Scientific Circle of the Society of Intellectual Property Law Supporters of the Jagiellonian University for participating in the classes and workshops within the 13th edition of the IP STUDENT project conducted this year by Attorney Zuzanna Ochonska. It is always a great pleasure to be able to share our knowledge with the student audience.

In the 20th edition of the national ranking of law firms 2022 organized by “Rzeczpospolita”, Markiewicz & Sroczynski received recommendations in 4 areas: 1) Competition and antitrust law; 2) Consumer matters; 3) Intellectual and industrial property law; 4) Copyright and Related Rights. Individual recommendations were given to: 1) Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz (“Copyright and Related Rights”); 2) Dr. Michał Markiewicz (“Intellectual and Industrial Property Law”); 3) Jarosław Sroczyński, M.A. (Competition and Antimonopoly Law and Consumer Affairs). An interesting June weekend in beautiful Stockholm. After two years of covid break, another meeting of Cleary Gottlieb alumni. Discussions about the world today from a global perspective and many local ones. Also lots of sightseeing, from the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in historic Villa Åkerlund – thanks to H.E. Erik Ramanathan and Alumnus Ranesh Ramanathan for their hospitality – to an individual trip to the UNESCO-listed Skogskyrkogården forest cemetery, with Greta Garbo’s grave. A few dozen steps up its Meditation Hill – high at first, then lower and lower, as in life.
