PROF. RYSZARD MARKIEWICZ AND DR. MICHAŁ MARKIEWICZ ON THE PANEL OF THE XXII KRAKOW CONFERENCE OF THE MODERN COPYRIGHT AND PRESS LAW 2022 SERIES

On September 12-14, 2022 in Krakow, the XXII Krakow Conference organized by the FORUM Educational Center took place. Dr. Michal Markiewicz gave a lecture covering two issues: copyright vs. trademark and the liability of a hosting platform on the example of the “Chomikuj” ruling. – Supreme Court judgment of August 26, 2022 (II CSKP 3/22). On the other hand, Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz laid out the matter including: the complaint of Poland in the case for the annulment of Article 17 of the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU) 2019/790 on copyright in the digital single market, new problems and settlements in the field of copyright protection of a work and its scope, as well as the principle of proportionality in copyright law. NEW PUBLICATION EDITED BY PROF. RYSZARD MARKIEWICZ – LAW AND SOCIAL MEDIA

In June 2022, the Jagiellonian University Publishing House published a new book “Law and Social Media” edited by Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz. The book is the result of two years of research conducted by doctoral students within the framework of the legal sciences seminar at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences at Jagiellonian University. Congratulations! The authors’ work was supervised by Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz.

An interesting June weekend in beautiful Stockholm. After two years of covid break, another meeting of Cleary Gottlieb alumni. Discussions about the world today from a global perspective and many local ones. Also lots of sightseeing, from the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in historic Villa Åkerlund – thanks to H.E. Erik Ramanathan and Alumnus Ranesh Ramanathan for their hospitality – to an individual trip to the UNESCO-listed Skogskyrkogården forest cemetery, with Greta Garbo’s grave. A few dozen steps up its Meditation Hill – high at first, then lower and lower, as in life.
