On April 26, 2018, Jarosław Sroczyński participated as a speaker in the 2nd Polish Scientific Conference “Safety, regulation and competition on the energy market”, organized at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Łódź. Mr. Sroczyński presented a paper entitled “Network connection agreements in the heating sector: competition and consumer law issues”. Numerous representatives of the energy sector, academics and practitioners were among participants of the Conference.

On April 25, 2018 on the occasion of celebration of the World Intellectual Property Day, a general discussion on „The boundaries of art and copyright” was organized at Piwnica pod Baranami, a famous place in Cracow with long artistic tradition. Among the participants of the discussion was Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz. Judges, academics teachers, actors, artists and musicians were among the audience.

On April 20, 2018, the National Scientific Conference took place at the Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics of the University in Wrocław, entitled “Costs of financial services in the light of current market challenges. Law – practice – problems – needs – perspectives”. During the Conference, Mr. Sroczyński participated in a panel “Costs on the payment services market” with a presentation entitled “Regulating the activities of independent payment service providers – an opportunity for more competition and lower services costs?”. The Conference gathered numerous representatives of the financial business, academics and practitioners, along with high level participants from the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection and public institutions from the financial sector.

On March 12-14, 2018, the 18th Cracow Conference – Modern Copyright Law has taken place. Among the speakers were Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz, who discussed the issues of plagiarism, linking and fair use, and Dr. Michał Markiewicz, who presented the issues of commonality of copyright and the scope of copyright protection of computer programs.

We received this year again the recommendations of Chambers Europe in the field of competition law, both for our law firm and Mr. Sroczyński personally.

On March 7, 2018, at the Faculty of Management at the University of Warsaw, a CARS Seminar took place, devoted to “Challenges in trade relations in the food supply chain after the entry of the contractual advantage law”. Mr. Sroczyński participated in a panel discussion and delivered a speech on “Keys” to the law on contractual advantage: the protected general principles. The Seminar gathered representatives of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection, trade associations, universities, business and legal practice. Markiewicz & Sroczyński was one of the partners of this event.
