On March 11-13, 2019, the 19th Cracow Conference – Modern Copyright Law has taken place. Among the speakers were Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz, who discussed the issues of copyright, artificial intelligence (AI) and new copyright disputes, and Dr. Michał Markiewicz, who discussed the combined works, how they are regulated in the Copyright Act, and the essential elements of the contracts concerning combined works.

The new edition of the book “Copyright and related rights”, co-authored by Professors Janusz Barta and Ryszard Markiewicz was published in February 2019.
The publication presents all issues of copyright law including the collective management by special organizations and the protection of databases. Congratulations!

On December 3, 2018 a leading legal portal prawo.pl has published an interview with Mr. Sroczyński, concerning the overlapping competences of the OCCP and the new data protection regulator, UODO. The overlap appears in the area of protection of collective consumer interests. It is important to precisely distinguish between the enforcement powers of these two authorities, as each of them may impose significant financial fines on undertakings violating the law. On November 19, 2018 the Patent Office announced the results of the 16th edition of the competition for the best scientific work on intellectual property in 2018. Among the doctoral dissertations honoured by the Minister of Science and Higher Education was “Management of the common copyright law”, written by Dr. Michał Markiewicz. Congratulations!

A new book of Professor Markiewicz, “The illustrated copyright law”, has been published in October 2018 by Wolters Kluwer. The book is a comprehensive compendium of all aspects of copyright law. Similarly to the previous book of Prof. Markiewicz, “Playing with copyright law”, also in this publication the legal analyses were enriched by interesting, sometimes astonishing examples presenting on illustrations how copyright law works in practice.
