On April 14, 2011, Jarosław Sroczyński participated in the nomination ceremony of the 2011 Ranking of Law Firms, taking place in the offices of „Rzeczpospolita” in Warsaw. J. Sroczyński received a „Leading Lawyer” recommendation in the field of competition and antimonopoly law. Our law firm, Markiewicz & Sroczyński GP, was named first among the “recommended law firms” in the field of competition and antimonopoly law.

On January 18, 2011 the Minister of Culture and National Heritage appointed Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz as the Chairman of the Copyright Commission. Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz, who holds the position of Director of the Institute of Intellectual Property Law at the Jagiellonian University, is a well known specialist in the field of copyright, information and industrial property law, a member of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property, a member of the Legal Commission of the Polish Academy of Learning and a lawyer in our law firm. Prof. Markiewicz was appointed as arbitrator on 21 December 2010.

On December 21, 2010, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage appointed 30 arbitrators constituting the Copyright Commission. The Commission deals with approving the remuneration tables for the use of copyright works and settles disputes connected with the application of the approved tables. Among the newly appointed arbitrators are lawyers from our law firm: Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz and Prof. Janusz Barta.

On November 18, 2010, a new edition of the workshop “Distribution Agreements” was held in Warsaw. The workshop, organized by Business Media Solutions, grouped representatives of various businesses. Jarosław Sroczyński presented a lecture entitled “Development of Online Distribution: New Opportunities Stemming from the EU Regulation on Vertical Restraints”.

On November 11-12, 2010 Jarosław Sroczyński participated in the international conference in Madrid: “Reviewing Vertical Restraints in Europe: Reform, Key Issues and National Enforcement”. The conference was devoted to various aspects of vertical arrangements, in connection with the entry into force as of June 1, 2010 of the new block exemption Regulation No. 330/2010 and the Guidelines of the European Commission. The conference was organized at the University of San Pablo in Madrid, by the Centre of Competition Policy of the Institute of European Studies. The participants of the conference were representatives of the European Commission, national regulatory authorities, academia, businesses and legal practice. During the conference, Jarosław Sroczyński presented a lecture entitled “Enforcement of Vertical Restraints in Poland (overview and specific issues)”.

On November 4, 2010, during New Media Salon at the 14th Book Fair in Cracow, our lawyers – Mr. Piotr Suski and Mr. Marcin Mioduszewski – presented a lecture entitled “Around Electronic Book – Legal Issues”, in which they outlined the legal character of e-books as well as the legal aspects of their marketing and selling.

On September 28, 2010, a workshop entitled „Class Actions: New Instrument of Claim Enforcement by Clients” was organized in Warsaw by Business Media Solutions. Representatives of legal and commercial department of undertakings from various branches of business participated in the workshop, during which Jarosław Sroczyński gave a lecture entitled „Class Actions: New Weapon in the Law Protecting Competition and Consumers?”.
