“Radca Prawny”(issue 121, January 2012), an official publication of the Polish National Council for Legal Advisors, published an interview with Mr. Grzegorz Turnau “When an artist is a trademark”. Mr. Turnau in a nice way referred to the assistance provided to him by Prof. Markiewicz with one of the copyright agreements. See pdf.

On November 4, 2011, during the seminar at the 15th Book Fair in Cracow, our lawyers – Mr. Piotr Suski and Mr. Marcin Mioduszewski – delivered a lecture entitled “Co-authorship of the works and publishing agreement. Legal aspects of the joint authorship copyright in market trade”. In their speech, our lawyers presented legal issues concerning works of joint authorship as a subject of copyright agreements.

In the fifth issue of the Rejent magazine (No. 5/2010) a gloss was published regarding the ruling of the European Court of Justice delivered on September 10, 2009 (case No. C-97/08 P – Akzo Nobel), written by our lawyer, Mr. Lukasz Wieczorek. The author made comments on the problem of legal presumptions in the field of parent company joint and several liability for the infringements of antimonopoly law committed by its subsidiaries.
In the ninth issue of the Rejent magazine (No. 9/2011) Mr. Lukasz Wieczorek published another gloss pertaining to the ruling of the EU Court of Justice delivered on January 21, 2011 (case No. C-90/09 P – General Química). It continues the issue of the afore-mentioned legal presumptions. The author commented on the extension of legal presumptions on entities belonging to groups of companies.

On September 14, 2011, a workshop “Intellectual Property in Practice” was held in Warsaw, devoted to intellectual property rights issues. The workshop, organized by Business Media Solutions, grouped representatives of legal and financial departments of various businesses as well as legal counsels. Marcin Mioduszewski and Piotr Suski presented a lecture entitled “Copyright transfer agreements and license agreements in trading copyrights”.

On September 8-11, 2011 the European Culture Congress was held in Wroclaw. It was one of the most important events of the Polish presidency in the European Union. Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz attended the discussion panel called “Wikianarchia”. The topic of this panel was inter alia the resolution of conflict between authors and recipients of culture by way of modifying the copyright law.

Once again On September 8, 2011, a new edition of the workshop “Distribution Agreements” was held in Warsaw. The workshop, organized by Business Media Solutions, grouped representatives of various businesses. Jarosław Sroczyński presented a lecture entitled “Development of Online Distribution: New Opportunities Stemming from the EU Regulation on Vertical Restraints”.

Our lawyer, Mr. Lukasz Wieczorek, won a 2nd prize in competition for the best MA thesis in the field of commercial law, defended in academic year 2009/2010. The nationwide competition is organized annually by the publishing house Wolters Kluwer Polska sp. z o.o. and “Przegląd Prawa Handlowego” legal magazine. Mr. Wieczorek’s MA thesis was “The civil liability in groups of companies”.
