On March 5, 2010 our lawyer Mr. Marcin Mioduszewski was leading a legal workshop session for the academic staff of the Cracow’s University of Agriculture on “Management of Intellectual Property in the Field of Life Science Research” organized by the Center for Transfer of Medical Technologies Technological Park Ltd.

On February 1, 2010 a seminar was held by the recently established Institute for Law and Society, hosted by the Batory Foundation, on “Analyses and recommendations on selection and appointment processes for the Justices of the Polish Constitutional Tribunal, enforcement and execution of judgments handed down by the Tribunal and communication of the Tribunal with the public”. At the inauguration of the Institute’s activity to promote the education of lawyers as a tool of the new law reforms, Katarzyna Kaperczak, our legal assistant, delivered a presentation of her project on common law judgments, which were translated by students of the American Law Program at the Jagiellonian University.

On January 15, 2010 the Institute of Intellectual Property Law, Jagiellonian University, organized a conference entitled “Regulations referring to unfair market practices – a need to change?”. It was part of the “Consumer against unfair market practices” program, which is financed by EEA Grants and Norway Grants. During the conference Jarosław Sroczyński gave the presentation on “The Polish law on eliminating unfair market practices: a implementation?”. Among other things, the lecture addressed the analysis of the Polish definition of the consumer in the light of the EU directive concerning unfair commercial practices.

On January 4, 2010 Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz and Prof. Janusz Barta delivered a lecture at the Institute of Intellectual Property Law, Jagiellonian University, launching the second edition of the IP Student Workshops for the students of the Faculty of Law and Administration, Jagiellonian University. The topic of the presentation was the subject of copyright law.
Also, Jarosław Sroczyński delivered a lecture on eliminating unfair market practices in the light of the protection of competition and consumers on January 18, 2010. On January 25, 2010, Sybilla Stanisławska-Kloc delivered a lecture on plagiarism and the permissible use in copyright law.

On December 9, 2009 a University Concert, organized by the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Cracow, and the Jagiellonian University was held in the hall of Collegium Novum. Marcin Dylla played classical guitar music and then Prof. Ryszard Markiewicz delivered a lecture on “The legal definition of copyright work”. On November 28, 2009, Jarosław Sroczyński participated in the International Conference “Homeopathic Therapy in Current Medical Practice”, which was organized by the Polish Association of Clinical Homeopathy, under the patronage of the Polish Medical Association. During the conference Mr. Sroczyński gave a presentation on “The Freedom of Practice for Doctors Applying Homeopathic Therapies – the Basic Legal Issues”.

On October 29, 2009 a seminar on the control of mergers was held in Warsaw to inaugurate the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. It was a meeting under the auspices of the Central European Competition Initiative (CECI) which groups together six countries: the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Poland, Hungary and Austria. During the seminar, Jarosław Sroczyński delivered a presentation entitled “Merger Review in an Economic Downturn: EU Experience” and he participated in a panel discussion.
